SHAMAN’S LANTERN

This series of works painted with acrylic ink on mulberry paper began with the intention to develop a calligraphic or gestural stroke. My investigations involved mulberry paper and acrylic ink worked directly on the floor in a very free application using a variety of brushes; the resulting imagery was not so much defined as discovered. The “shamans” emerged spontaneously, and the final installation form of a lantern increased their visual impact through back-lighting.
