FILM — HUNTING WITH THE HEART
I began the project Hunting with the Heart, hoping to be able to conjure an artist’s presence through her own words and images. British Columbia artist Emily Carr was a rich subject; with seven books published under her name, in addition to local public collections of her artwork, there was much material to choose from. I hoped that allowing Emily’s story to unfold through her own words might reveal her creative process in an immediately personal way.
This five-minute excerpt from a 30-minute video created in 2011 was accepted as part of the 2012 Vancouver Art Gallery exhibition, Hope at Dawn: Watercolours by Emily Carr and Charles John Collings, curated by senior curator Ian Thom.
